Reading Recap
This month wasn’t too eventful, but I did read some amazing books. I finished 8 books this month, which leaves me at 75/100 books for the year, on track to completing my goal on time! Here’s what I read this month:
- Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan (⭐️⭐️)
- Pride by Ibi Zoboi (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
- P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
- Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
- The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
- Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saénz (⭐️⭐️⭐️)
- Snotgirl Vol. 1 by Bryan Lee O’Malley (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
- Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
As you can see, I was getting hyped for Fall/Halloween this month as my books for progressively creepier throughout the month. I’m also super happy to finally have gotten to Frankenstein, which I amazingly have never read before (what kind of English major and lover of women writers and sci-fi am I if I haven’t read this??). This also checks off a book on my chart of “100 essential novels” so that’s good; it’s been a while since I crossed one off.
I started off the month with falling in love with Pride, a Pride & Prejudice retelling, then the month just got even better when I read The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein. And THEN I ended things off on a bang with Sawkill Girls. I absolutely fell in love with Sawkill Girls. Like this book changed my life and it was everything I wanted in a YA horror/fantasy book that I never knew I needed. I was going to start another book the afternoon I finished that one, but I was so hung up on Sawkill Girls I just couldn’t. All I want to do is talk about this book but of course it wasn’t released yet when I finished it (available Oct 2).
So I’m gonna end this section just by saying you need to read Sawkill Girls. Now.
Bookish World Updates
Not too much new here in the bookish world for me. Something new I am doing though is hosting a monthly book challenge on bookstagram for month of October with some other bookstagrammers (#HauntedBookstagram). So September was fun connecting with other bookstagrammers and sorting out how we were going to do this.
Other than that, working at Chapters is going well, and it’s so hard not to leave every shift with new books. It’s so exciting seeing all these new releases coming into the store and getting to set them out. Needless to say, I’m loving working with books.
Books Acquired
Oh boy. This month was bad. Except not really.
Working at a bookstore and getting that discount has taken a toll on my incoming books, but also I attended a used book sale. So all things considered, I did really well. I only acquired 17 books this month.
So first, I’ll start with the book sale, since I’m not going to individually list the 10 books I got. One book I got is a special edition book that goes along with the Heartland series. I got this one because when I was in grade school, Heartland was one of the first series I got into (other than HP). I was lucky to order the whole 20 books of the Heartland series from a Scholastic book order. I don’t see these books around anywhere but I loved the series when I was 10 years old, so this extra book that goes with it is something I had to get. Then from this book sale, I also came out with 9 Buffy the Vampire Slayer books. Like yknow those cheap, small, books that probably each have an episode in them? These books didn’t even appear in goodreads when I searched them out, and they’re all just from the late 1990s and early 2000s. My girlfriend is a die-hard Buffy fan and she got me into it a few years back. So I got these mostly for her. All-in-all though, at this book sale I only spent $5 because each book was 50 cents. So not bad.
And then for the books purchased from Chapters:
1) Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Paperback Ravenclaw edition)
2) The Golden Tower (Magisterium #5) by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare
3) Inkmistress by Audrey Coulthurst
4) The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lii
5) The Cruel Prince by Holly Black (original hardcover, since I gave away my Owlcrate edition in a giveaway)
6) Snotgirl Vol 1: Green Hair Don’t Care by Bryan Lee O’Malley
7) Snotgirl Vol 2: California Screaming by Bryan Lee O’Malley
And then I only acquired one arc this month, Damsel by Elena K. Arnold, which I received through Chapters.
Essentially my list of books acquired that I probably won’t read is bigger than the amount of ones I bought with the intention of reading. At least I’m admitting it.
Great wrap-up! Working at Chapters is like a dream of mine! I mean I would be soooo tempted to leave every shift with a new book but it would be so worth it! XD

Thank you! Haha yeah the struggle is real. Every shift I’m so tempted to leave with something, whether it be a book or some other item. Most shifts there’s a purchase after xD
